Presenting at FDG 2026 in Copenhagen

This August I was fortunate to attend the Foundations of Digital Games conference held at the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen, where I presented Serious Games for Cognitive Bias Mitigation: A Review of Learning Mechanisms and Design Approaches.

The review maps the design space of games built to reduce cognitive bias, and the main thing it turns up is how narrow that space still is. Across the 16 games we looked at, debiasing is treated almost entirely as an individual problem, something to correct in one person's reasoning. Social and systemic approaches barely appear, which leaves a lot of room for anyone willing to work there.

Four ACM pages was an unforgiving budget for a review of 16 games... Most of the writing was deciding what to cut, frustratingly.

Luckily, Copenhagen is a beautiful city, and well worth the hassle on its own!
